Summary:
The Residential Architect at Gayler Design Build Inc reports to the Design Manager and is responsible for the creation of the structural design of the project that is constructible and meets the client needs and expectations.
The Architect serves as a direct contact with the client throughout the design phase of the project and in addition to that follows the production of the project and is out in front of the production crew with design solutions and accurate, complete, and timely construction drawings.
Responsibilities:
The Residential Architect is responsible for the following duties, actions and tasks:
Follow and help improve the Gayler Design Build Inc design process.
Manage all aspects of the design by regularly conferring with the client to determine factors affecting planning interior and exterior environments, such as budget, architectural preferences, lifestyle, family size, and purpose and function.
Advise client on structural design factors such as space planning, layout and utilization of fixtures, appliances, or equipment, building codes and constructability.
Conduct site inspections, measure, record existing conditions.
Evaluate site conditions and constraints for construction project, including but not limited to inspection of crawl space, attic, roofing, and other structural and architectural components.
Gather and collect code requirements for new construction, addition, or alternation.
Prepare design that complies with the code requirements and the client's budget.
Design structural components/details.
Coordinate with interior designers to ensure visual, functional, and structural components are designed in synchronization and to the client's budget.
Manage the development of all drawings and documents required in the design process, permitting, and construction.
Coordinate with estimators on material requirements and costs.
Present initial and final design to client for approval.
Staying up to date in industry standards by continuing education, participating in workshops, and continually learning about new design tools, techniques, trends, materials and processes.
Regularly attend department, company, and client meetings.
Attend Pre-Construction conferences.
Resolve design problems and issues that arise during construction.
Enter project data, information, drawings, other documents and progress in the company's project management software.
Maintain a relationship with clients throughout construction, including periodic site visits.
Stay up to date on local building codes and laws and the latest architectural tools, methods, and practices.
Other duties, as assigned by the Design Manager.

The Residential Architect is accountable to the following measurements of success and standards of quality and performance (performance metrics) for the assigned
Responsibilities:
Develop structural designs that meet or exceed the profitability requirements of the project and company.
On time, complete and accurate designs, drawings and documents to meet or exceed project schedules, timelines and milestones.
On time and accurate update of project in company project management software and all other relevant paper and electronic systems.
Communicate status of all assigned projects at least weekly and immediately report the completion of and changes to all assigned process steps in the appropriate system and to all impacted Gayler Design Build Inc staff.
Collaborate with all stakeholders to bring design in on budget, or where it is not possible, to provide clear options for doing so to the Design Manager and client.
Resolve Issues and all production design questions accurately, completely, and in a timely basis.
Maintain an average Client Satisfaction Rating (CSR) of satisfied to extremely satisfied at the final exit survey.
Maintain a professional appearance and follow the company dress code while in the office, at client sites, or while representing Gayler Design Build Inc.
While representing Gayler Design Build Inc, act in accordance with company values in all decisions and interactions with clients, vendors, partners, staff, or the public.
Authority:
The Residential Architect has the following decision-making authority for the organization:
Final authority on all recommended structural design elements to meet client expectations and budget.
Direct or modify the use of Gayler Design Build Inc physical and financial resources in assigned design projects within project budget.
Obtain authorization from the Design Manager to exceed budget or profitability guidelines and obtain authorization from the Design Manager to add or modify staff or subcontractors assigned to the project.
Manage day-to-day tasks and schedule to achieve project and organizational objectives and to meet timelines and budgets.
Skills and
Experience:
The Residential Architect is expected to have the following basic minimum skills and experience for the position:
5 or more years of experience in residential architecture with at least 2 years in remodeling.
Bachelor of Architecture degree required; Master of Architecture preferred.
Licensed in the state of California to practice Architecture preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Proven proficiency in Chief Architect software program.
Team player with a positive can do attitude.
Proven problem-solving abilities.
Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
